Birth Control Pills during surgery - How do you continue taking BC if you're unable to ingest ANYTHING?

I'm on YAZ. I am not on the pills for birth control, but to help control cramps/bleeding during my period and to help with my skin. I am heading for major surgery and I won't be able to eat/drink anything for quite a while. I thought I remember hearing that you can take your BC pills lly but I might just be making that up. I think continuing taking it would be helpful - I don't want cramps after major abdominal surgery and I certainly don't have to have to deal with a period when I'm unable to walk easily. I will consult my gyno tomorrow/Monday, but wondered if you guys had any answers.
